It takes a lot of strength to turn your back on a loved one who just hurts you too much.

[side-note: i'd love to get that tattooed on my back for real!]

Just some sketches for this week's topic....

I got the idea for this weeks Illustration Friday topic from something that happened a few years ago.

I was living in Tampa, Florida at the time and one morning on my way to class at University, I noticed a bright pink Flamingo flying around over-head. It struck me as odd that one solitary flamingo would be flying around, considering they are flocking birds. It also struck me as odd that he was so very pink. I've seen wild flamingo's and not very many are as shocking pink as ones you'd see in a zoo.

I never heard anything again about the flamingo, either on television or the interweb.

It was altogether quite odd....

[I started working on this one at a really large size (7.5"x17") so the thumbnail view may look a bit crap]

Here's the original ink drawing I started off with...

My man Toots looking all young an' ting'.

I did the original artwork as black & white line art, but I'm going to screen print this if I can find some larger scraps of the old paper that I scanned for the background texture.

Here's the original b/w line-art

When I think roots, it takes me back to scrawling and scribbling in the back of my notebooks in high-school. I lots them all years ago, so I started a new one for this weeks illustration fridaytopic.

....this one time, I sent my my mind under the ground, and this is what he brought back to me.

I shall have to slide this in, because from this seed, my creativity grew and my life changed drastically when I decided to get back into drawing.

This is the end result of a doodle I started while on the telephone. It was the first drawing I had done in over 6 years (this was 6 years ago). I was in University at the time, studying Computer Science and very bored with it. When I finished this, I felt stronger about taking up a creative profession than I ever had in my life. I haven't looked back since!

Regatta Time!

Here's a t-shirt design I just finished for the North Eleuthera Regatta.

The job was designated as a 6-color spot-color print on white tees, so that's the reason for the sparse coloring, but it will be printed with fluorescent inks at the beginning of next week. I'll post it when I'm done!
